An Optical Network Unit (ONU) is a key component in a Passive Optical Network (PON) architecture, which is used in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) or fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) deployments. ONUs are installed at the customer's premises and serve as the interface between the subscriber's equipment and the PON. They typically convert optical signals transmitted via fiber-optic cables into electrical signals that can be used by devices such as computers, phones, and TVs. ONUs also handle the reverse process, converting electrical signals from subscriber devices into optical signals transmitted back to the service provider's equipment.
